Part 4: Internet Safety and Smarts
As the syllabus noted, "computers and the internet can be as much of a trap and a tyrant as they can be a tool and a toy." Learning to use this technology responsibly is just as important as learning to use it in general. This short but important section of the internet unit focuses on learning to use computers and the internet in ways that are edifying to each other and glorifying to God. Additionally, students are briefly exposed to and interact with an online "learning management system" similar to those they will certainly encounter as they go on to college (and especially if they take any online courses).
What could God's Word possibly say about computers and the internet? You'd be surprised! [PowerPoint Notes]

Part 3: Building a Website
[Introduction & Brainstorming Handout] [Project Requirements Handout]
Now that you have experienced a little bit of HTML code, you are probably thinking that it would be a long, complex process to create a nice-looking website just by writing the code. Thankfully, you don’t have to! There are several free editors out there that let you create an awesome looking website right in your browser – even if you don’t know ANY code! For this project, you will be using the same website builder that Mr. Peyton uses to build and update mrpeyton.com – Weebly.
To build a website, first you need a reason. In this case, you and a partner are going to be coming up with your own country. You get to design and create everything – from the shape of its borders, to its flag, to its type of government, geography, military, what it’s good at, etc. Along the way, you will design a website to show off your creation, as well as learn how to create and insert custom images and creating an image from a screen capture using simple tools like Paint. You will find the links below helpful as you begin to think about what your country could be like:
